    Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Womens Council – Child and Family Well-being Service

    The Child and Family Wellbeing Service works with children and families to address barriers that affect child, family and community wellbeing. We support families’ capacity to care for children who are considered at risk.

    Child Nutrition Program

    The Child Nutrition Program uses a holistic approach to support families to care for the health of their young children (0 – 5 years).

    The program works with parents, families and the community to address factors that can impact on a child’s growth and development.

    The Child Nutrition Program also works with community stores in the region to develop and discuss healthy food options and policies.

    Referrals for support are received from many sources including hospitals, community clinics, child protection agencies and families.

    Child Advocacy

    The Child Advocacy Program support families in the NPY region to better understand child protection issues and legal process.

    The program provides advocacy and support to families where children have been removed including navigating legal services, access visits and reunification.

    Walytjapiti (family) Program

    The Walytjapiti Program is a voluntary service supporting families with children aged up to 18 years.

    Integrating Anangu world views and child-rearing practices, we build on the family strengths to keep children safe, happy and protected within their communities and culture.

    We deliver Child and Family Intensive Support (CaFIS) through trauma informed, therapeutic case management.

    Referrals to the program can be received through statutory child protection workers, community-based agencies and members of the community.

    NPY Womens Council

    Office of the Children’s Commissioner Northern Territory

    The Commissioner is an independent statutory position established under provisions contained in the Children’s Act 2013 (the Act).

    The Commissioner has six core functions which include:

    • Dealing with complaints about services provided to children.
    • Undertaking investigations or inquiries related to systemic issues impacting on the care and protection of vulnerable children.
    • Monitoring the response of Territory Families to allegations of the abuse of children while they are in out-of-homecare.
    • Promoting an understanding of and informing public discussion about the rights, interests and wellbeing of vulnerable children.
    • Monitoring the administration of the Care and Protection of children Act as far as it relates to vulnerable children.

    Relationships Australia – Children & Family Counselling

    Raise happy and healthy children with support from counselling. Our local counsellors can work with children, parents and their families for concerns in their life.
    Support for children and families include:
    • dealing with separation
    • step-families
    • problems at school, such as bullying
    • friendship and social issues
    • Anger, sadness, stress, worry or fear
    • traumatic events like illness, grief and loss
    • family changes.

    Parents and carers first need to speak with our counsellors before children start counselling. The counsellor talks to parents about their worries to find out if counselling is suitable.
    Young people 14 years old or older may be able to book themselves into counselling.

    TeamHEALTH

    TeamHEALTH provide services and support to Territorians who have a mental health concern or are vulnerable and disadvantaged. This could include  supporting people when they come out of hospital, or when they become unwell, to regain confidence and connections. Perhaps it’s gaining safe and secure housing, getting a job or gaining new skills. It’s about supporting them to undertake daily tasks that are often taken for granted. It’s listening to and understanding what an individual wants and utilising the strengths and resources they have or that are available to them – so they can create their best life.

    Timber Creek Health Centre

    Timber Creek is located approximately 300km west of Katherine along the Victoria Highway. The health centre is staffed by a health centre coordinator, doctor, remote area nurses and support staff. It is regularly visited by specialist services and various KWHB program staff. Timber Creek Health Centre also provides 24 hour acute and emergency care as well as regular services to our health centres at Bulla and Mialuni.

    Tropics Early Learning

    Tropics Early Learning is an early learning centre where children are nurtured to learn and thrive through play-based programs that are individualised to the child’s needs. We are a welcoming community where everyone belongs.

    We provide care and education for child aged between 6 weeks and 5 years, from 7:00am through to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and are approved to cater for up to 90 children.

    Age groups:

    • Babies: 6 weeks to 18 months
    • Toddlers: 18 months to 2 ½ years
    • Kindy: 2 ½ years to 3 ½ years
    • Preschool: 3 ½ to 5 years

    We provide Nutritious meals throughout the day for breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

    Umbakumba Child Care

    East Arnhem Regional Council operates Umbakumba Child Care with programs designed to provide early education and care services according to the needs of the children, families and the local community. The Child care centre support the growth and development of children through nutritious meals and snacks, various activities and programs. To ensure cultural strength, the centre employ local Indigenous educators, with an ongoing commitment towards mentoring and training opportunities for all staff.

    Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation – Family Mental Health

    This program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. It aims to support families who are worried about their children’s mental health. We use family and art as a way to effectively support people in a relaxed and non-invasive way. Community workers engage with families to discuss challenges and how to overcome them.  Because we have a close and ongoing relationship with family members of different generations, Waltja staff can identify people in need and recommend appropriate actions of support.
