Carers NT
Carers NT is a remarkable not-for-profit organisation focused on enhancing the lives of carers residing in the Northern Territory. A carer can be anyone who selflessly provide unpaid care and support to their family members or friends facing various challenges such as disability, chronic or terminal illness, mental health issues, drug or alcohol dependency, or aging frailty.
The organisation firmly believes in inclusivity, welcoming all carers and the individuals they care for, regardless of age, background, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. Our vision is to foster a community that recognizes and values carers as a significant asset, ensuring they have access to timely and appropriate services. To achieve this vision, Carers NT actively promotes awareness of carers among government funders and the wider community.
We strive to provide carers and their loved ones with a range of services, including respite care, counselling, volunteer support, peer support, advice and information, education, and advocacy. By providing these comprehensive services, Carers NT enables carers to nurture their own well-being, reducing the challenges they face and provide vital support to their families.
Join us on this journey and let us help you navigate the path of caregiving with compassion and expertise.

CatholicCare NT – Children and Parenting Support
Our Children and Parenting programs can help families in different ways. Home visits and community outreach: CatholicCare NT can provide “in home” parenting support and education. We work with you to identify issues that could impact your children or family. We can provide support and referrals to help you with these issues before they escalate. Where available, we can also help transport you and your family to activities, playgroups and appointments. Parent education: Our parenting education groups focus on child development. They help to build parenting skills and knowledge. For more information on parenting education and groups click here. Peer support groups: Peer support groups let you link you in with other families in the same stage of life. These peer supports include groups for mothers and babies, primary school parents and single fathers. Children and youth counselling: Counselling is available for children, young people and families. These sessions are tailored to your needs.

CatholicCare NT – Children’s Contact Services
We have Children’s Contact Centres in Darwin and Alice Springs. They are safe and neutral spaces for supervised contact visits and/or family changeovers. This gives children the chance to have meaningful relationships with their parents and other significant people in their lives. We help separated families where there is conflict.
Changeovers: Our centres allow parents to drop off and pick up their children while avoiding contact with the other parent.
Supervised visits: Our centres allow parents to spend quality time with their children. These visits are supervised by our workers.

CatholicCare NT – Parent Education
We know that parenting can be hard and challenging. That’s why we run programs to help you develop skills to raise happy, healthy and resilient children.
Who we help
Our programs help parents and families with babies and children in school.
How we help
We run different types of groups and programs to help parents in different stages of life. They focus on different areas of child development and parenting skills.
Here are some of the programs we run:
Tuning into Kids: Tuning into Kids is an emotion-focused parenting program. It provides parents and carers with skills to ‘tune in to’ their child’s emotions, while managing their own.
Circles of Security: This program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
Bringing up Great Kids: The more we understand our children the more we can help and support them. One of the ways we can do this is to think about memories of our own childhood and imagine the world from a child’s point of view.
123 Magic: This program is based on establishing the role of parenting consisting of three tasks – working with behaviours that are based on communication, encouraging good behaviours and strengthening the parent-child relationship.

Darwin Toy Library
The Darwin Toy Library opened its doors in 1978 as an organisation to assist families of children who had additional needs. The families were and continue to be supported through access to equipment and appropriate toys to enhance the growth and development of their children who required additional support. The Toy Library provided members with a wider variety of toys and equipment to borrow reducing the financial burden of purchasing large or specialist items and allowing multiple families to benefit from each item.
The Toy Library has evolved from there to support all families enhancing their children’s growth, learning and development through play.Families become members of the Darwin Toy Library and are able to borrow from over 4000 items, including small and large toys and equipment, on a regular basis reducing the cost of purchasing and ensuring a variety of activities appropriate to the developmental stages of their children.Read more
