    Domestic Violence Legal Service

    The Domestic Violence Legal Service (DVLS) is a free legal service for persons who have experienced or are at risk of domestic or family violence in Darwin and the greater Darwin region.

    We can provide legal advice and information on applying for a domestic violence order; Police domestic violence orders; changing, extending, or removing a domestic violence order; undertakings and warning letters.

    For eligible clients we can provide legal representation and advocacy in domestic violence matters and can assist with referrals to other legal and support services.

    DVLS also provide community legal education and law reform advocacy.

    The Domestic Violence Legal Service provide a duty lawyer service for victims and people at risk or domestic and family violence.

    The duty lawyer is at the Darwin Local Court every Tuesday (for private applications) and Friday (for police ordered Domestic Violence Orders).

    East Arnhem Regional Council Community Patrol

    The East Arnhem Regional Council (EARC) plays a crucial role in coordinating and providing Community Patrol Services across all nine communities in the East Arnhem region. With a team of 43 employees, EARC works in collaboration with various organisations such as the NT Department of Health (DoH), Gove District Hospital, Community Clinics, Sobering Up Shelters (SUS), and Patrollers.

    The aim is to offer culturally appropriate assistance to Indigenous individuals who are at risk of causing harm or being harmed. This includes supporting intoxicated individuals, those under the influence of substances, young people, victims of violence, and the homeless.

    Elliott Safe House

    Elliott Safe House provides emergency accommodation related to domestic, family, and community violence on a 24/7 basis. The Safe house also provides outreach support for “at-risk” women and children by providing information, support, and referrals to relevant service providers.

    Galiwin’ku Women Space

    We create a safe space for women and children in Galiwin’ku who are experiencing domestic and family violence. We offer access to Gurrutu centred case management, crisis accommodation and outreach support women and their families will be empowered to live the lives free of domestic and family violence.

    Our Services aim to combine Yolŋu and Balanda laws and processes to address domestic and family violence through early intervention, crisis support and rehabilitation and healing. It is through these services that intervention of the cycle of violence can be facilitated and supports can be put in place to protect the women and children experiencing violent situations.

    Our unique and locally developed service model reflects the work of the Galiwin’ku Women’s Space Inc. members, who have been building the service for years from their own experiences of domestic and family violence as Yolngu Women. The purpose of our service is to add value to the current safety strategies women in Galiwin’ku practice and provide structured support to the GWS members and other strong community leaders who act as supports to their families and advocates for a community free of domestic and family violence.

    • Assistance to clients who are experiencing family and/or domestic violence

    • Initiates well-being activities for clients and families
    • Works closely with external stakeholders to deliver educational programs to clients and families

    Katherine Women’s Crisis Centre

    Katherine Women’s Crisis Centre (KWCC) is an established and well- known service in Katherine. It provides crisis accommodation and related support services to women and children escaping domestic and family violence across the Katherine region.

    The Centre can support up to 25 people as well as education to women around the cycle of violence and its impact on children, as well as living skills and other practical information.

    KWCC delivers a Critical Intervention Outreach Service (CIOS) to women that have previously utilised the KWCC accommodation services or who have been referred through the Family Safety Framework. This outreach service provides the women with ongoing support and referral.

    KWCC services the following communities in the Northern Territory: Katherine, Mialli Brumby, Geyulkan, Rockhole, Binjari & Werenbun.
