Grassroots Action Palmerston Aboriginal Corporation
The Grassroots Youth Engagement Program is a grassroots Aboriginal-led initiative improving employment opportunities for at-risk young people in the Palmerston community.
Initiated by local Elder Serena Dalton, the program has partnered with local business to employ young people in a supported environment, with the aim of increasing the young people’s confidence and employability.
The program is engaging young people most at risk of falling through the cracks – including young people who have been involved in the youth justice system. These are young people who have felt that a job is out of reach for them, who might have felt that they wouldn’t be able to fit into the workforce – despite their motivation to work.
The program provides young people with cultural security through wrap-around mentoring support and cultural activities.
