Multicultural Services

RAMSS is a free,voluntary and confidential case management and advocacy service assisting refugees and migrants who have lived in the Darwin,Palmerston and rural area for less than 5 years. Individuals,couples and families are supported to address presenting issues,build skills and gain confidence to navigate and access the broad range of services available in the community.

Red Cross mobilises the power of humanity to bring people and communities together in times of need and builds on community strengths to achieve the following outcomes.

• Disasters and emergencies in Australia – Communities are prepared and resilient to the increasing number of climate-related disasters and other emergencies.
• International disasters – In Asia Pacific and globally, communities have an increased capacity to prepare for, anticipate, respond to and recover from disasters and crises.
• Migrants in transition -Refugees, people seeking asylum and people in immigration detention experience a safe, fair, welcoming and inclusive world.
• Laws of war – Better humanitarian outcomes are reached for people and communities impacted by armed conflicts.
• First Nations peoples -First Nations peoples and communities build on their strengths to lead systematic changes and have more opportunities to shape their own futures.
• People in the justice system – As many people as possible never reach the justice system and those who come out of the system are supported to participate in society.
• Community services – People falling through the gaps, including those experiencing homelessness and loneliness are supported, feel included and empowered in society.
• Lifeblood – Life-giving blood, plasma, transplantation and biological products for world-leading health outcomes.

Our Children and Parenting programs can help families in different ways. Home visits and community outreach: CatholicCare NT can provide “in home” parenting support and education. We work with you to identify issues that could impact your children or family. We can provide support and referrals to help you with these issues before they escalate. Where available, we can also help transport you and your family to activities, playgroups and appointments. Parent education: Our parenting education groups focus on child development. They help to build parenting skills and knowledge. For more information on parenting education and groups click here. Peer support groups: Peer support groups let you link you in with other families in the same stage of life. These peer supports include groups for mothers and babies, primary school parents and single fathers. Children and youth counselling: Counselling is available for children, young people and families. These sessions are tailored to your needs.

These services are for people who need information about aged care options, or help to access aged care supports. This means older people, their families, friends and others who want to link with aged care supports.

DASSAN provides advocacy and support services that benefit asylum seekers in the community and in immigration detention in Darwin that include:

• Direct provision of welfare and emotional support to asylum seekers;
• Brokering for pro-bono legal, medical and housing services for asylum seekers;
• Supporting community members to advocate asylum seekers; and
• Promoting an awareness of the issues affecting asylum seekers.

Funded by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, this program aims to promote social inclusion, cohesion, multicultural diversity and linguistic diversity for the wellbeing of migrants. The program offers Mental Health support to migrants in the NT by applying cultural safety model while dealing with psycho-social issues of migrants, building therapeutic alliance and trust, making services inclusive and accessible. To engage the multicultural population, good quality interpreter services where available that will help in developing participatory and collaborative partnerships with the migrant population. The service is provided through Telehealth model or face to face consultation which will leverage the existing Ignite potential resources of trained Mental health professionals.

FACES is a telephone hotline that offers information about and referrals to support services throughout the whole of the NT. This service can be accessed by anyone in the community from parents and carers to professionals, who are seeking advice on resources and services that can help support and empower families and children.

We are a community group that plans and runs activities, including games, singing, dancing, exercises, picnics and dining out.

We support sick members and provides financial help and attendance at funerals for members who pass away.

We invite speakers for information about health and other aged care services and responds to government invitations.

Training Sessions: Thursdays weekly at Nakara Oval from 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Football Without Borders (FWB) is an organisation that promotes the integration of refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants in the Darwin community by engagement through the practice of football (soccer). The program provides a great opportunity for participants to meet form new friendships, practice their favourite sport and grow in confidence as they find their place within the Darwin community.
