NT Shelter’s work, as the peak body for affordable housing and homelessness, involves research and policy development, advocacy and communications, sector consultation and coordination, and capacity building. We represent and promote the important work and interests of our members across the affordable housing and homelessness sector with a view to achieving better outcomes for Territorians without access to appropriate and affordable housing. We are also responsible for delivery of the Homelessness Response Group (HRG) Darwin Pilot, the ShelterME website, and other activities as reported in our Annual reports.

NTCOSS Social and Community Sector – Policy and Sector Support
NTCOSS supports a strong and sustainable Community and Social services Sector (the Sector). The Sector is subject to constant change driven by a range of imperatives including legislation, contractual arrangements, competition and increasing demand for services.
NTCOSS identifies and assists the Sector to meet changing requirements though legislative change, social policy changes and operational practises. NTCOSS also works in building organisations’ capacity to provide high quality services by facilitating development and providing resources, information and referrals. Key areas of work are:
- Providing leadership for the Sector to positively influence policy frameworks affecting the Sector;
- Positioning and promoting the Sector to increase its collective influence, and improve recognition of the contribution to society and the economy;
- Promoting real community engagement across NT Government;
- Lobbying for adequate funding and effective service agreements;
- Disseminating information and resources to the Sector;
- Facilitate networking, development and training opportunities for the Sector workforce; and
- Promoting standards and developing organisations’ capacity for quality improvement, accountability and consumer participation.

Office of Senior Territorians
The Office of Senior Territorians engages with the community and government agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to the implementation of government’s policy priorities for Territory Seniors
The Northern Territory Government provides services and support to seniors, including:
- grants for organisations to hold events during Seniors Month
- how to apply for a Seniors Card for discounts at businesses
- the NT Concession Scheme
- the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme.

Office of the Children’s Commissioner Northern Territory
The Commissioner is an independent statutory position established under provisions contained in the Children’s Act 2013 (the Act).
The Commissioner has six core functions which include:
- Dealing with complaints about services provided to children.
- Undertaking investigations or inquiries related to systemic issues impacting on the care and protection of vulnerable children.
- Monitoring the response of Territory Families to allegations of the abuse of children while they are in out-of-homecare.
- Promoting an understanding of and informing public discussion about the rights, interests and wellbeing of vulnerable children.
- Monitoring the administration of the Care and Protection of children Act as far as it relates to vulnerable children.

Rainbow Territory
Rainbow Territory is an unfunded Northern Territory community group that advocate for the human rights of Northern Territorians who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (‘LGBTIQ’).
Rainbow Territory aims to develop a safer, fairer and a more inclusive Northern Territory.
What Rainbow Territory is working towards
Rainbow Territory wants to change law and policy in the NT to make the NT a better place to live for LGBTQI people of all ages.
We do this through

Relationships Australia – Redress Scheme Support Service
We provide free support for people who would like to apply for the National Redress Scheme.
If you experienced sexual abuse as a child under 18 years of age in any institution or school (including sporting club, scouts, orphanages, foster care, religious organisation, group home or clubs) we can support you.
Our support services can help people understand the Redress Scheme and its eligibility requirements. We support them through their application process and help with access to legal and financial advice.
