Peak Bodies

We provide services and resources to members to support their transition to registration as a community housing provider (CHP), and encourage more Aboriginal organisations to join us.

The peak body for Aboriginal community-controlled health services in the Northern Territory. AMSANT works with the Government and communities to provide effective Aboriginal medical services and lobbies Government for positive changes that help to improve the health of Aboriginal people.

The service advocates for equality in health focusing on supporting the provision of high-quality comprehensive primary health-care services for Aboriginal communities. AMSANT also provides representation on committees, forums, conferences, meetings, inquiries, commissions and seminars relating to Aboriginal health.

The Aboriginal Peak Organisations Northern Territory—APO NT—is an alliance comprising the Aboriginal Medical Service Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT), North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA), Central Land Council (CLC), Northern Land Council (NLC), Tiwi Land Council (TLC), Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC), Aboriginal Housing NT (AHNT) and the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network (NT IBN).

The alliance was created to provide a more effective response to key issues of joint interest and concern affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory, including providing practical policy solutions to government.

APO NT is committed to increasing Aboriginal involvement in policy development and implementation, and to expanding opportunities for Aboriginal community control.

APO NT seeks to strengthen networks between peak and regional Aboriginal organisations and smaller locally-based organisations in the Northern Territory.

Community Development Program (CDP)

The Community Development Program (CDP) supports job seekers in remote Australian communities to become \’job-ready\’, address employment barriers, and contribute to their communities through a range of high-quality activities.

ALPA operates a community-controlled model for the delivery of CDP, ensuring that we are working closely with community members to co-design the priorities of the program and to ensure it meets the needs of the wider community in each area that we deliver CDP.

Training

ALPA is a Registered Training Organisation endorsed by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) offering nationally recognised qualifications, currently offering Certificate 1 to 4 from the Retail Services training package SIR, Certificate 1 & 2 from the Community Services training package CHC and Certificate 1 & 2 from the Foundation skills training package FSK.

East Arnhem Youth Model

The East Arnhem Land Youth Model, also aptly named Guŋga’yunga Djamarrkuḻiny (Helping our Children), is a pilot research program that is facilitated by ALPA and is three way funded as a venture between ALPA, The Northern Territory Government and National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).

Community members from Gapuwiyak, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi and Ramingining are able to propose activities and projects for young people. These proposals are then assessed by local ‘Leadership Groups’. These groups of community leaders direct which projects and activities should be trialled in their communities to strengthen young people. The Leadership Groups manage a pool of funding to support the right activities, run in the right way aligning with a locally developed strategy. Through careful monitoring and evaluation of these activities, we work with the Leadership Groups to monitor what has and hasn\’t worked to strengthen youth, and how to adapt for next time.

The Association of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies Northern Territory (AADANT) Incorporated is the peak body for Alcohol and Other Drugs treatment services in the Northern Territory.

As an independent, membership-driven, not-for-profit association, we work with our members to support and strengthen Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) service delivery for people who experience harmful substance use in the Northern Territory.

Our mission is to build and maintain a strong, sustainable and culturally diverse AOD sector that works together to reduce alcohol and drug-related related harm across the Northern Territory.

AHPA NT is your professional body when you work in the field of health promotion, and is a great place to network with other like-minded public health professionals.
The NT Branch is the leading health promotion association in the NT, dedicated to advocacy in health, improving professional development, networking opportunities and communication between health promoters.
Key priorities for the NT Branch include:

• Advocacy – We are committed to advocacy at the local, or territory level on a range of health and related social issues. AHPA NT is a member of NT Council for Social Service (NTCOSS) and Multicultural Council for NT (MCNT).
• Professional Development – We organise and collaborate with existing health professional bodies and support innovative ways to build capacity and the local workforce.
• Scholarships – We provide financial support for NT Branch Members to access and attend professional development opportunities intra- and inter-state.
• Communication – We co-facilitate ongoing networking opportunities for health promotion professionals in the NT.
• Mentoring – We encourage early-career health professionals to be engaged and assisted through AHPA’s National Mentoring Program

AutismNT is the peak body for Autism in the NT providing information, advice about services, support, education & training programs, parent support groups, library services, promotional materials and representation & advocacy for children, young people and adults with autism spectrum disorders.

Resource Library

The Library holds a collection of books, DVDs and magazines about autism spectrum disorders.

A peak body for people, of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers.

Carer Education Program

Carer education is designed to support family carers in their caring role. By learning about dementia and its impacts on the person with dementia, participants will have a better understanding of the effects of the disease.

Community Education

These presentations promote risk reduction and increase public awareness about memory loss with community education sessions delivered direct to various community groups. All groups are welcome and specific topics can be catered for.

Dementia Essentials

Designed for Aged Care Workers employed in residential, community and flexible aged care services, the Dementia Care Essentials III and Dementia Care Essentials IV Advanced provides quality training in, and workforce assessment of Competency in CHCAC319A and CHCAC416A.

SALO

The major goal of the Service Access Liaison Officer (SALO) is to deliver dementia information and risk reduction strategies to people within rehabilitation or correctional facilities within the NT. Stepping Out Program

These groups provide a weekly Day Respite Service to families of people with dementia. Group attendance encourages the maintenance of skills and abilities within a social context.

Social Support

The social support program provides group-based and individualised practical help for people with memory problems who live alone, may not have family or social support locally and are not receiving community aged care packages.

Carer Support Groups 

Designed to support carers, these groups offer opportunities to network with other carers, share experiences and develop new skills.

Living with Memory Loss

This comprehensive information and support program is for people who have recently been diagnosed with memory loss or dementia and their family member or friends.

RISK REDUCTION

Brain Gym

Come along and join in, this group invites members of the general public to engage in a variety of stimulating mental exercises, puzzles and games designed to maintain and sharpen cognitive abilities and memory.

Safe Return Program

A unique program, it can give peace of mind if the person you care for tends to wander from home. This program is conducted in partnership with the NT Police.

YOUNGER ONSET DEMENTIA KEY WORKER PROGRAM

Dementia can occur at any age.The YODKW program provides individual support and services to improve the quality of life of those living with younger onset dementia, their families and carers. The program can assist a person to obtain a diagnosis, navigate and understand services, including the NDIS, and prepare organisations to meet the unique needs of this group.

Relate, Motivate, Rehabilitate

This service is a fee paying service whereby Dementia Australia NT can provide sessions of individual social support for people with dementia who are currently residing in hospital or a residential care facility.

Advocacy and Your Rights

Be aware of your rights, be assured of our confidentiality and be supported at all times throughout your involvement with Dementia Australia NT.

A community-based legal service practising in planning and environmental law and providing legal advice & advocacy on public-interest planning & environmental law for individuals and groups. The service also provides education for community groups and engages in law reform.

Foster and Kinship Carers Association NT is the peak body for foster and kinship carers providing support, advice and advocacy for carers across the Northern Territory.  Foster and Kinship Carers Association NT provides services that empower foster and kinship carers through knowledge, support and advocacy.
