    CAAPS Youth Services Programs

    CAAPS Aboriginal Corporation provides quality programs to support young people who have alcohol and/or drug issues, including their families and communities.

    Intensive Assessment Program (IAP)

    Intensive assessment program in a residential setting for up to 4 weeks for Young People aged 12 – 17.

    Tailored activities may include; Psychoeducation sessions, Education/Work-ready support, Case management and care planning, Counselling, Adventure Therapy, Cultural Support and Training, Art Therapy, Brief Interventions, Protective Behaviours.

    IAP provides an opportunity for young people to undergo intensive assessment to help make positive changes in their lives. IAP goal is to allow young people to be supported back in their own community where possible by assessing the needs, challenges and strengths of each young people to inform the development of tailored support and intervention plans.

    24-Hour residential service. Indigenous Specific. Non-residential Day programs are also available.

    Substance Treatment Program (STP)

    Young People can only enter STP if they have already finished CAAPS IAP. STP is for young people who cannot address their AOD use in their community without extra support. There is no fixed duration of treatment.

    CatholicCare NT – Children and Youth Counselling

    Our counselling service is for young people who have experienced family violence or trauma. Counselling focuses on strengths and family relationships.

    How we help

    Counselling sessions are delivered in flexible locations based on the client’s needs. Our counsellors use a range of approaches and tools that are suitable for children and youth.

    Is there a cost?

    A sliding fee scale can apply. Fees can be waived if financial hardship.

    CatholicCare NT – DAISY Program

    The DAISY program works with youth and their families to address the impact of alcohol and other drugs in their lives. We help young people to reduce harm related behaviours from alcohol and other drugs misuse.

    The program is aimed at young people aged between 12 and 19 years old who use, or are affected by, alcohol and other drugs. We help them change their behaviours and understand the impact that alcohol and other drugs misuse has on their life.

    CatholicCare NT – Youth Outreach

    Young people can be at risk of homelessness due to different circumstances. When this happens, they can need help with family life, school or employment. The youth outreach program works with young people to help them become healthy, happy and avoid homelessness. We help young people aged 12 to 18 years in Tennant Creek that are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We work with young people to address issues such as AOD misuse, family violence, mental health concerns and school non-attendance. We help them to strengthen family relationships and maintain stable accommodation. We help them to participate in education or employment.

    Central Australian Aboriginal Alcohol Programmes Unit (CAAAPU)

    Counselling & Alcohol-Awareness Program

    Provides counselling, alcohol-awareness education, life skills and an after-care program for indigenous people with alcohol An outreach day-care alcohol-awareness program is available for indigenous men and women with alcohol problems. Individuals are able to attend the centre during the day to participate in the programs undertaken by residents in the residential treatment program.

    Outreach Programs

    Outreach school, community and prison programs are available for indigenous children, young people and adults with alcohol problems. This includes follow-up services for people who have completed the residential treatment program.

    Residential Treatment Program

    An eight-week residential treatment program for indigenous people with alcohol problems. The program also assists residents to give up cigarettes and cannabis drug use.
