About 54 Reasons (Save the Children)

Save the Children’s work in Australia is delivered by 54 Reasons, our team committed to ensuring children and young people’s rights are real, respected and part of everyday life.

Named for the 54 articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 54 Reasons works alongside children, families, communities and governments to ensure every child in Australia has what they need to thrive: care, connection, safety, education – and the chance to have a say in the decisions that affect them.

Delivering quality services

Every child has the right to feel safe, to learn, to grow, and to be heard. Our rights-based services help to make that possible for more than 25,000 children, families and caregivers every year through support including:

  • Early years care that nurtures children’s development and confidence before school.
  • Violence prevention and recovery for children, young people and families.
  • Youth justice support for young people, from early intervention to returning to community from detention.
  • Education engagement to help children stay connected to, or reconnect with, learning.
  • Family support services that help create safe, nurturing environments for children to thrive.
  • Professional development to strengthen our sector’s capacity to deliver child-centred, rights-based supports.

Changing systems for good

Implementing lasting change for children depends on more than individual and community support services: we need to change the very systems that shape children’s lives in Australia.

That’s why we’re a visible, vocal advocate for child rights, and why we collaborate with government and sector partners to amplify children’s voices, experiences and perspectives at the highest levels – ensuring children are part of the everyday conversations, decisions and policy-making that impact them.
