Vinnies delivers garden maintenance and transport services through the Commonwealth Home Support Program. Clients contribute a fee per service based on their service type.

SERVICES
The association currently operates:
1. Flexible route town bus service –Providing a very affordable service that runs during the day Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm on a fixed route and schedule. Passengers can pay by cash or EFTPOS. Basic Card is accepted. Cost is $4 per day.
2. A Door to Door – Wheelchair Accessible Mini Bus a general door-to-door service open to all members of the public; a service for participants in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)- who have requested direct Transport under their supports and for clients of the Commonwealth Home Support Scheme (CHSP)- frail people over the age of 65 (45 for Aboriginal people) who have been assessed ( My Aged Care) and are eligible for transport assistance.
3. Connect Service – providing transport to or from the Greyhound Coaches arriving midnight and departing 1.30am from BP in Tennant Creek.

Thamarrurr Aged Care is the region’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (NATSI) flexible aged care program. It provides a safe space for the senior people of the Thamarrurr region to receive culturally appropriate care. It also respects the cultural values and kinships systems by allowing them to remain connected in the community, to be close to family and to have access to Country.

The program employs local staff and encourages the concept of “Kardu caring for Kardu” (people caring for people, Murrinhpatha).

The aged care program is flexible and delivers a mix of aged care services that meet the communities needs and cultural requirements. The program also allows for collaboration with other service providers who wish to provide activities for the Elders and promote intergenerational knowledge transfer.

Aged care services include:

• Respite
• Meal delivery
• Allied health
• Personal care
• Culturally appropriate tailor-made activities.

Council supports communities through the provision of aged care, home support and disability services.  Services currently available across the programs include:

• Meals
• Domestic assistance
• Personal Care
• Social Support (individual / group)
• Transport

We work to help elders stay safe and strong by offering disability support and enabling access to visit country (home). We look out for opportunities to support elders, helping people to stay at home on communities, providing warm blankets and clothing in the winter. The public has supported our annual blanket appeal generously.

Frail aged people on communities can become ill quickly during the bitterly cold desert winters, and sadly some pass away early because of neglect. We seek out those who may have fallen between the cracks and offer our support. It is vital that we renew the supply of blankets each year because of the harsh conditions.

West Arnhem Regional Council is committed to providing a range of local government services that improve the employment opportunities, health and wellbeing of its residents. The Regional Council is one of the largest employers in the region, with more than 230 employees.

West Arnhem Regional Council’s main focus is on the delivery of its core services. These include waste management, maintaining parks and gardens, and roads.  As well as core services, the council delivers a range of community and commercial services.

Our senior ​bowls program

On Thursday mornings, our Drop in Centre is the home of our Senior Bowls Family. They come over to play bowls, but it’s not just about the game, it’s a way of building strong and trusted relationships with others. A web of laughter and support connects the participants.

Outings and​​ events

Some of our members have been with us for over 20 years, and they have proven to be an essential element of our community services. We also organise outings and activities designed specifically for seniors, coordinated with YMCA workers that accompany them to lunches at the water front, bowling and health and fitness classes, and celebrations such as Easter and Christmas.

YMCA of The Northern Territory offers Short to Long Term accommodation to disadvantaged people in Darwin. The Hostel is a multi-story accommodation block which has shared kitchen, laundry and toilet facilities. There are single and double/twin furnished rooms available with a secure car park, swimming pool, kiosk and weekly provision of clean linen.

The Hostel is located in the Darwin CBD district. Reception is open Monday – Friday 8am to 4pm.
