The Family Support Service offers a bi-cultural, relationship based approach to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice. It aims for capacity building and is family centred by providing support and advocacy to vulnerable families who experience challenges in their lives.
Health issues, housing and money problems, alcohol and drugs, family troubles and not having a job make it hard for a family to work well. The Family Support Service helps parents manage these things to improve their connection to culture, family and community, which results in positive outcomes for themselves and their children.
The program is based on the Parents Under Pressure Framework which acknowledges the unique needs and resources of each family. This starts with a shared understanding of a family’s current concerns, strengths and areas of difficulty.
