Jilkminggan is located off of the Roper Highway, 146 kilometres south-east of Katherine and 38 kilometres from Mataranka. Jilkminggan may also be called Djembere, Jjilkminggan or Duck Creek.
Jilkminggan has a population of approximately 260 people with common languages spoken being Mangarrayi, Kriol, Roper Creole and English
By road, the trip to Jilkminggan takes approximately one and a half (1.5) hours on an all-weather road from Katherine. The double lane Stuart Highway is sealed in its entirety as is the Jilkminggan access road that links Jilkminggan to the Stuart Highway approximately 10 kilometres south of Mataranka. Please be advised that Jilkminggan is a closed community; which means you will require a permit from NLC (Northern Land Council) prior to visiting.
