Play Therapy- Regional Combined Therapies Services

Play Therapy is primarily for people of all ages. It is usually used because of  challenges regarding emotions and behavior like social anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), working through traumatic events, processing grief, and a whole lot more.

Play Therapy is used for those seeking help beyond simple talk-based therapy/counseling. If they have post-traumatic stress disorder, suffer from depression, or some other mental health issue or disorder, Play Therapy can help them rediscover what they love doing and what they like about themselves, which hopefully helps them in the long run.

At RCT we use a variety of play based therapies and modalities to tailor the play therapy services to individual and family/carer units.
We combine:
Occuplaytional Play– (play through an occupational therapy lens) which is great for those who find it difficult to stay still.
Aggressive Play– behaviours often help to feel secure and safe because of feeling frightened inside and help to protect from feeling unwanted, unimportant, unloved or unlovable. We use evidenced based interventions to support whole body awareness within the aggressive play field.
Filial Play Therapy– combines psychoeducational, empowerment, and play therapy methods that actively involve parents/ carers in their  treatment. It is a psychoeducational wholistic intervention in which the therapist trains and supervises carers as they hold special child-centered play sessions with their own children, thereby engaging carers as partners in the therapeutic process.
Child-Centred Play Therapy– is a systematic and evidence-based approach to counselling children. It has a long history of efficacy in therapeutic work with children. It is well supported by extensive research and is a non-directive approach that often achieves better outcomes than therapist-directed play approaches.
