The Gumurr Marthakal Rangers are based in Galiwin’ku on Elcho Island. The ranger group manage 323,048 hectares of coastal land, intertidal waters and island chains that were dedicated as the Marthakal Indigenous Protected Area in 2016. They also manage around one million hectares of surrounding sea country.
