Galiwin’ku Women Space
We create a safe space for women and children in Galiwin’ku who are experiencing domestic and family violence. We offer access to Gurrutu centred case management, crisis accommodation and outreach support women and their families will be empowered to live the lives free of domestic and family violence.
Our Services aim to combine Yolŋu and Balanda laws and processes to address domestic and family violence through early intervention, crisis support and rehabilitation and healing. It is through these services that intervention of the cycle of violence can be facilitated and supports can be put in place to protect the women and children experiencing violent situations.
Our unique and locally developed service model reflects the work of the Galiwin’ku Women’s Space Inc. members, who have been building the service for years from their own experiences of domestic and family violence as Yolngu Women. The purpose of our service is to add value to the current safety strategies women in Galiwin’ku practice and provide structured support to the GWS members and other strong community leaders who act as supports to their families and advocates for a community free of domestic and family violence.
