AMRRIC is a national not for profit organisation that uses a One Health approach to bring about integrated animal health, education and community development programs in Indigenous communities.
Our One Health approach recognises the inextricable links between human, animal and environmental health and wellbeing. By working with remote Indigenous communities to improve the health of their companion animals we are helping to create healthier, safer and happier communities.
Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC)
The Arid Lands Environment Centre investigates networks, informs, provides advocacy and acts on environmental and sustainable-development issues applicable to the arid zone.
The Centre is involved in range-lands management, urban water & energy conservation, weed management, biodiversity conservation and waste minimisation.
Environment Centre NT (ECNT)
The Environment Centre NT (ECNT) is the peak community sector environment organisation in the Northern Territory. We have been working hard to protect the Territory environment since 1983.
ECNT is lobbying for a strong Climate Policy for the Territory, including a net zero emissions target by 2050 and a ban on shale gas fracking. ECNT advocates for protection of the uniqueTerritory landscapes and biodiversity. This includes through strong environmental legislation, including stronger laws for land clearing and mining rehabilitation.
ECNT works closely with local community groups Climate Action Darwin, Waste Free NT and COOLmob. We are helping to foster sustainable communities by supporting and empowering the community members to take action.
COOLmob works with the Darwin community to help protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water usage through improved home-energy efficiency, reduced car usage, reduced waste going to landfill and water conservation. Home and apartment building sustainability audits are conducted by COOLmob’s specially trained sustainability officers.
Peak community-sector environmental organisation providing advocacy and policy development as well as conducting public media campaigns to raise community awareness of environmental issues and lobbying government on matters of environmental importance.
Programs offered include Living Harbour, Safe Climate, Nuclear-Free Northern Territory, Green Living and Nature Territory which deals with land clearing & sustainable land-use. The Centre is also involved with government processes and submissions including environmental-impact assessments.
Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation
Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation strives to improve the cultural, social and economic well-being of the Jawoyn people, while always caring for country.
We represent and support the Jawoyn people and country through our human services, land management, cultural and business enterprises.
Emergency relief is available in the form of food vouchers for indigenous singles and families in financial distress.
Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation
Provides human services, cultural & land management programs and business enterprises for the Jawoyn people and indigenous people living on Jawoyn land. Land and parks management programs involve traditional burning techniques and feral animal control. The Corporation also operates as a regional development agency with a strong focus on economic development, enterprise development and the creation of employment opportunities. Business enterprises include Jawoyn Aviation and Nitmiluk Tours. Identification & preservation of cultural sites is also undertaken. The Corporation organises the Barunga Festival and operates the Manyallaluk Art & Craft Centre and the Ghumarn Culture Centre.
Women’s Leadership Program
An annual forum for indigenous women from the Katherine region to recognise and develop leadership opportunities.
The Program also provides a forum under the auspices of the Banatjarl Strongbala Women Grup in which Jawoyn elders and elected representatives meet in alternate months, in their communities, to promote women’s leadership.
Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation
Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) is a large, progressive and professional Aboriginal organisation with a dual purpose: It is the representative organisation for the Larrakia people, the traditional owners of Darwin and is also a major service provider for Aboriginal people in the region.
LNAC is a dynamic, membership-based organisation, and a major Aboriginal service delivery and business development organisation in the areas of:
- community services
- homelessness support
- land and sea monitoring
- management and arts, culture and knowledge.
Aged & Disability Support Services
Larrakia Nation Aged Care Service is an approved provider of Aged Care Services for the Commonwealth Department of Health. Our primary focus is to assist our clients in living stronger, living longer. We do this by focusing on working with individuals and their strengths, capacity and goals to enable them to remain living independently and safely in their home.
Provides life-skills training for tenants in areas such as budgeting, money & debt management, renters’ rights & responsibilities and household safety to enable them to retain tenancies and maintain healthy places to live.
Return to Country (RTC)
Provides information, referral, proof of identification documents, and return-to-country flights for indigenous people returning to their communities.
The office also finds short-term accommodation for indigenous people who are living in or visiting Darwin.
Health Engagement & Assistance in the Long Grass (HEAL) Program
Provides practical support for homeless and houseless indigenous people in order to improve their health and wellbeing. Programs include Grass Buddies and Arts in the Grass.
Larrakia Assist & Night Patrol
Our Night Patrol service runs three vehicles, seven nights a week, looking after Aboriginal people in Darwin and Palmerston. We provide early intervention to remove people from danger and keep them safe. We resolve disputes using culture and mediation.
Larrakia Outreach & Transport Service
An outreach intervention, prevention and transport service for indigenous people who are homeless, itinerant or living in the long grass. Transport is provided to enable people to attend medical appointments, Centrelink offices, other welfare services and the airstrip for return-to-country flights.
Our Youth Patrol is a new initiative funded in Night Patrol. Operating a bus with the same times and contact number as Night Patrol, we take young people home so they get to bed to be ready for school the next day. We work closely with local youth centres to deliver this service and we encourage any young people needing transport home at night to call us on 1800 101 645
Provide conservation and land management services including erosion control, feral animal & weed control, board walk construction, turtle rescue, fencing, marine surveys and water quality testing.
