Community Housing Central Australia – My Place Program
The My Place Program aims to prevent homelessness by improving access to housing in the private rental market through providing subsided transitional housing, tenancy education and coordinated support. This innovative program is funded by the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development.
Rent Subsidy Program
The Rental Subsidy Program focuses on helping people that are experiencing homelessness, with a focus on those that are escaping domestic and family violence and/or people who are suffering mental health issues. We lease up to 33 properties from the private rental market and use these as transitional housing for a range of different households and for a period of 12 to 24 months. During this time, the My Place team work with households to build their knowledge and understanding of managing a tenancy, establish support links where needed, and provide case management for independence. The aim is for all households to have secure housing at the end of the transitional period.
Private Rental Brokerage
The Private Rental Brokerage program helps households with the financial means and capacity to enter the private rental market directly. We acts as a broker by helping the participants establish a rental budget, searching for affordable properties in the private rental market and then supporting them with coordinating inspections and applying for housing.
Partnerships
Community Housing Central Australia works with a wide range of partners to deliver the program including Women’s Safety Services Central Australia (Formerly Alice Springs Womens Shelter), the Mental Health Association of Central Australia and many local real estate agents and support services.
